Fall Unfinished

Here is an amazing piece of work from Norway - Nina Lise Moen said of her work, " I am an award winning quilt artist, -designer, - author - and teacher from Stavanger, Norway.  I love the thrifty side of quilt making and this little quilt "Fall Unfinished" is made from recycled and repurposed fabrics only, in my own "painting with fiber" technique.  The painted effect is created by using layers of different kinds of fiber and heavy stitching.  I have also added some machine and hand embellishments."

Stairway to the Moon -

A beautiful piece of textile art by the 3rd place winner of the Art Category in Festival of Quilts 2013.

Andrea Stracke - Germany

"Perroudite".

Andrea said, "Hand quilting and wholecloth quilts are my passion - what else could I contribute to "Unfinisheds" but a little hand quilted wholecloth?

All my quilts got names of precious stones and minerals.  The "Perroudite" is a bright red mineral.  I think quilts and precious stones have three important things in common: they are beautiful, they can have almost every possible colour and every piece is unique.  They are perfect couples.

The pattern for this little wholecloth is derived from a diamond brooch of the Edwardian era.  The jewellery made in this period inspires me a lot to create patterns for my quilts and I am sure I have to live at least 200 years to implement at least the best of them."

Hearts Delight

by Rose Lewis from Australia.  Rose is well know in her own country for her wonderful trapunto designs and has kindly donated two pieces for The Unfini-SHEDS.  Have a look at her web site for more information about her and her award-winning quilts:-

Rose said, "This is just a little piece that started off as a doodle on paper with the heart being rather obscure in shape.
Then the feathers started to just grow, and as the pencil headed up it just found a very free flowing form,
and these feathers then took on their own life.
The small hearts filled in the negative areas.
The front is a cream Shadow Play fabric and the back is a Cotton Sateen.
The heart is stitched with a gold Aurafil thread."

Double Hearts Delight

by Rose Lewis of Victoria State, Australia.  Her web site showcases her amazing talent and her generosity in sharing her techniques with other quilters world-wide:-

www.roselewisquilting.com.au

"This heart here started as a wide single heart,
that was just calling for a heart to fill the inner negative space, not just any heart but a heart that had the softness of feathers.
The outer feathers needed to give the outer heart a solidness but not a heavy look.
This was stitched with a variegated mauve Aurafil thread and quilted with a green Aurafil thread.
The outer echo stitching on the outside gives the heart a look of softness.
Fabric used is a deep mauve Shadow Play fabric and the back is a cream Cotton Sateen" Rose told me - and it's absolutely gorgeous!
